Care Conference 2000

“Encouraged me again to move past my discomfort to serve others. This time I believe I will!”

“It was a wonderful conference and will help me go home and face the care and kindness I’ve been unwilling to face doing.”

“Gained so much to take back to my own care ministry—everything was excellent!”

Comments like these from people who attended the International Conference on Care and Kindness 2000 are testimony to the mission of the conference. Chairwoman Shirley Zink says, “90% of helping is just showing up. That is the theme of our conferences and we provide speakers who help you learn how to do the other 10%!”

People came from New Zealand, Ger- many, England, the Netherlands, Canada and the four corners of the United States (New York, Georgia, Arizona & California, and Washington & Alaska.)

Attendees included many who returned again from previous conferences as well as individuals and groups who came for the first time.

The third International Conference On Care and Kindness was held March 16-18 on the Crystal Cathedral campus in Garden Grove, California. The conference contained a mix of General Sessions, workshop breakouts, small group Table-Talks and celebration time with music, entertainment and hymns.

“I’ve learned so much from this conference—the speakers were excellent!!! I plan to come back next year and I’ll be sure to invite as many people as I can so they can share the experience with us as well.”

Feedback forms indicated an overwhelming feeling that the Conference is an important “refueling” station as well as an event which inspires and educates them. “Another fine conference! I wondered what possible new topics would be offered this third year that could teach me new stuff. Well, you did it!”

One attendee said: “I have given the seminar much thought and I would say the main lesson I took home with me is how I [should] look at other people. (Often as I rush around I move right past people—I do not even see them or notice if they are hurting or just need a hug.) Another difference is that I [now] find myself thinking about others.”

Many who returned to the conference for a second or a third time shared with us how their behavior had been changed by attending previously. “During the year I chose to show up rather than send a card, made a personal visit rather than make a phone call, and I loved surprising some here and there with an unexpected phone call.”

Another said: “I’ve been sharing the info from last year with the Stephen Ministers and a Sunday School class at my church. The material has also made a difference in my personal life.”

If you were not able to attend this year’s conference, you will surely want to put the dates for next year on your calendar.
