Care Conference 2001

“Timely. Needed. Igniting a wave — It’s already started.

Awesome. Healing for me!! Hope-filled!”

. . . some of the wonderful comments

from those who attended this year.

Individuals and groups seeking to improve their sensitivity to the world of hurts and needs around them came from all parts of the United States and as far away as New Zealand. The International Conference on Care and Kindness boasted its largest attendance ever, while at the same time succeeding in its goal of demonstrating Care and Kindness to those who were there. “What an exhilarating experience. I came here so empty and hurting myself. But am leaving with my cup overflowing! Thank you for caring for us as care givers, allowing us to be renewed and confirmed in our mission. God bless you all.”

Speakers guided the listeners to an increased awareness of actions they can take: “Excellent – zeroed right in on the real foundation of our calling to care and kindness” . . . “Gave great insights to the importance of just being present with others” . . . “We don’t need the ‘right’ words to be a blessing to people.” . . .“This was a phenomenal presentation. Dr. Mouw offered some incredible thoughts about civility and how we can promote civility that I will definitely use and tell others about what I learned.”

We discovered increased sensitivity through greater understanding

Speakers helped their audiences to see that by understanding situations from “the other side”, they are better equipped to offer help and support.

  • “This was very personal & real. It was like letting us in on the inside of addiction and recovery.”
  • “Yes, because of Susan’s personal experience it was very informative. Makes us aware of the wrong things we have said or heard others say.”
  • “I’ve forgotten how children view their world. It will help me to relate to them in a better way.”
  • “Yes, I gained insights. I used the info Mr. Evenhuis gave us the very next day.”
  • “I can now understand when kids have problems and when to get help.”
  • “What a fabulous way to stand in another’s shoes.”

Some found helpful guidance in their own lives: “Retirement session ministered to me personally as we are just entering retirement and trying to decide where God is leading.” . . .“It gave me a new perspective on how to evaluate my life.”

Columbine Kids were terrific

  • “Excellent – superb. The highlight of the seminar. Great that Richard, Elisha, Evan & Courtney were brave enough to share their experiences. Their words need to get out to the world. Their message will remain with me forever.”

  • “This teen group delivered a very provocative message to the adults…We need to re-evaluate how we relate to teens!”

  • “Great conference. We’ll be back next year.”

  • “God’s spirit shone through all of the tasks and faces. I was thankful, as an early arrival on my own, to be included in the organizer’s prayer. I was shown many acts of kindness; all gave me insight and understanding for my own spiritual journey. I am stronger in my faith and more confident to help others.”

  • “Another feast of spiritual nourishment and practical ideas to put into practice until my next visit to a care and kindness conference.”
