A Care Blog? Why?

—— Dr. James R. Kok

The first answer is that our Computer Director, Kris Fulton suggested it —it was her idea. My response was *cautiously* enthusiastic. Since it involved the computer, and the internet, I was not confident I could comfortably find my way in and out without considerable time and frustration. Kris quickly fixed that—she showed me that I could do it. Then I was off and running!

I was enthusiastic because there is little I believe more passionately than that everyone of us can deliver more loving-kindness everyday of the week! This blog idea would be one more way of teaching, encouraging, suggesting and promoting how to be “the light of the world” for Jesus’ sake.

Not only can each of us do more, this is what a meaningful life is about. It is about believing and acting on making the world a better place. Every action we take can contribute to Jesus vision statement when he said, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

So my blogging aims at helping and reminding everyone that we are here to increase beauty, justice, healing, efficiency, well-being, and, of course,
l-o-v-e. Some involves very hard work, even suffering. Some is very easy. It is the easy ways I am blogging about most, the daily activities that lift people and encourage them.

Blogging fits me because I enjoy writing. I am not a trained writer, but putting thoughts down satisfies my soul in some way. I think I am an “idea person” and letting my thoughts just float away feels wrong, so writing feels right. Naturally, I hope and pray for readers. I hope the ideas will nurture and enrich, inspire or encourage others. But blogging is satisfying even before there are numbers of readers.

My Care Blog is likely to be sprinkled with a variety of pieces, some new, some borrowed, some from my files. The focus is on care—plain and simple.

The final piece that makes this an especially wonderful addition to my life is that I can do it for the rest of my life! I intend to! I hope to, “God willing”, for thirty more years!
